For those people who enjoy a glass of Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, or Pilsner, you know that the temperature of that beverage is key to its...
Most of us don’t think too much about the environment where we work each day, but it takes a great deal of effort behind the scenes to make people feel physically comfortable. Building Automation Systems (BAS) are at the heart of the facilities where we spend eight (or more!) hours a day, and are designed to centralize control of the heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, elevators and escalators, and other systems in a building.
Building Automation Systems monitor and manage equipment and operations through industrial communications protocols such as BACnet, Modbus and LonWorks. Unfortunately, these systems are often comprised of disconnected silos of automation that do not share data – for example, your lighting and heating systems don’t spend time talking to each other.
But imagine if they did! There are vast efficiencies to be gained both by connected the applications together, and by connecting them to cloud applications. Through the Internet of Things, sensors, machines, and everyday objects can connect to the cloud for enhanced computing power and analytics, using open internet protocols to send and receive data. IoT is already a major part of consumer electronics, transportation, and smart cities.
We have recently created an infographic to help industry professionals understand the value of embracing IoT to create smarter and more efficient buildings. At Adesto, we are driven by the goal of simplifying the integration of IoT with operational technologies in industrial areas such as Building Automation. We are excited to share some of our insights in this area. Check out the infographic!
