DataFlash® Solutions Offer Low-Power Memory Critical for New Watch Designed to Detect Seizures
SUNNYVALE, CA–(Marketwired ) – Adesto Technologies, the inventor of the world’s lowest power memory solutions, today announced Empatica, the maker of a new med-tech watch designed to bring a better life to people that live with epilepsy, chose Adesto’s DataFlash product to give class-leading energy efficiency to its wearable devices.
Adesto’s DataFlash memory is a low energy, feature-rich non-volatile memory ideal for Empatica’s Embrace watch. A part of a growing number of med-tech and IoT devices, Embrace tracks your activity, stress, overall balance, and measures skin conductance and physical movement to detect epileptic seizures. Using Bluetooth low energy technology to connect with other devices, such as smartphones, Embrace can send out “epilepsy alerts” when the wearer is suffering an epileptic seizure or change in the sympathetic nervous system.
Empatica’s engineers use the full spectrum of DataFlash features to lower overall system energy consumption. Whether the application is code shadowing, data logging, performing over-the-air updates, or hibernating in a deep standby mode, the features of DataFlash significantly contribute to system efficiency in ways not achievable with competitive solutions.
“Finding a low-power memory solution while also upholding the watch’s design integrity is key to the success of Embrace,” said Simone Tognetti, CTO of Empatica. “Furthermore, Adesto’s DataFlash solutions enable our designers to incorporate security and identification protocols to aid secure data transfer over the air — a key concern for any device.”
“We’re excited to see our technology used for such a compelling device,” said Adesto CEO, Narbeh Derhacobian. “We’ve known for quite some time that the Internet of Things is going to be a revolution in electronics as large as the Internet revolution was, and it’s great to be powering the devices of the future.”
